Update:
This investigation is ongoing.

10 February 2022

The Charities Regulatory Authority (‘Charities Regulator’) has appointed inspectors to carry out a statutory investigation into the Irish Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, a Company Limited by Guarantee t/a the ISPCA (Registered Charity Number 20008734). It is important to note that the opening of a statutory investigation is not in itself a finding of any wrongdoing.

Between March 2021 and June 2021, a number of concerns were raised with the Charities Regulator in relation to governance at the ISPCA.  Having engaged with the charity on the concerns raised, the Charities Regulator has determined that a statutory investigation into the charity is warranted.

The Charities Regulator has appointed inspectors to investigate the affairs of the ISPCA and to prepare a report on their investigation and findings.

The ISPCA’s entry on the public Register of Charities can be viewed at the following link:

The Charities Regulator will not be making any further comment while the investigation is ongoing.
