Details announced for Charity Trustees’ Week 2022

A bumper calendar of events is planned for Ireland’s 6th Charity Trustees Week from 14 – 18 November 2022. The annual event celebrates the contribution of more than 76,000 volunteers across the country who are responsible for overseeing the operations of Ireland’s 11,500 registered charities, including directors, board members and committee members.
Organisations across the sector including Boardmatch Ireland, Carmichael, Charities Institute Ireland, Dóchas, Pobal, Volunteer Ireland and The Wheel, together with the Charities Regulator have created a calendar of over 20 events with the return of some in-person events, as well as virtual and hybrid occasions.
The wide-ranging programme includes talks and events to help charity trustees in their roles. There are opportunities also for the public, including those interested in becoming a trustee, to learn about the important role of charity trustees in Ireland’s growing charity sector.

Their role is vital in assuring public trust and confidence, the bedrock of the charity sector, and as the regulator, we see their deep commitment in action daily, often fulfilled alongside many other personal and business commitments.”
The Charities Regulator is delighted to host three events this year:
An Introduction to Classification – this lunchtime webinar on Monday, 14th will provide an overview of charity classification and how it works in practice. The webinar will include tips and examples to assist charity trustees as they decide which categories are the ‘best fit’ for their charity within the classification, as well as information about completing the charity classification form.
The Charities Governance Code in practice - on Tuesday, 15th, we will be in Athlone for a hybrid event co-hosted by with Volunteer Ireland and chaired by Fergus Finlay, former CEO at Barnardos Ireland. The event will provide insights and practical guidance on how the Charities Governance Code can help charities ensure their organisations are run effectively and efficiently. Speakers include Rita Kearney, an experienced charity trustee, currently with the Roscommon Women’s Network (RWN) as well as Helen Martin, Chief Executive, and Thomas Mulholland, Director of Compliance & Enforcement, Charities Regulator.
Money Laundering and Terrorist Financing and the risks for charities will be the focus of our third and final event - a joint lunchtime webinar on Friday, 18th with the Garda National Economic Crime Bureau.
